The founder and first Chairman of the SBA, James Anderton, recognised a need for an organisation that would help solicitors and their dependants in times of adversity.
In a letter dated November 1857 the enlightened Victorian solicitor remarked,” The want of such a Society will be apparent, when it is considered that in the Profession of Law, unlike other professions, no comprehensive Benevolent Institution exists.”
The Board of Directors and staff at the SBA are very proud of the charity’s achievements over the last 150 years and intend using the anniversary celebrations to raise awareness of the Association and to increase the level of support given by the profession.
The anniversary year launched on Thursday 18th October with a reception held at Manchesters historic Midland Hotel. Click here for more
The SBA will be hosting a number of events throughout the year, including a reception at the offices of Clifford Chance in April 2008.
